Tel Dan

See Mount Hermon in the distance? It's the source for a lot of the water we're about to see.   We are now driving up to the northern tip of Israel.

At the springs of the Dan River, a woodsy area covered with little creeks  running into this river.

There was always so much to see it was hard to take time to read the pamphlets.  At many tourist spots Israel provided seating for large groups to listen to a tour guide.  A few feet from their feet is the largest spring for this river coming up from under the rock.

A little further up the hill were bunkers used during times of border disputes.

Syria straight ahead

King Jeroboam established idol worship in the high place above the springs around 930 BC.  The town here was originally called Laish, and later named Dan.
I Kings 12:28-30  (King Jeroboam) made two golden calves. He said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” 29 One he set up in Bethel, and the other in Dan. 30 And this thing became a sin; the people came to worship the one at Bethel and went as far as Dan to worship the other.[d]
