A new home...

...for the projector in the Crossroads, and surround sound too!
And all in time for the Church Super Bowl Party this Sunday, to which everyone is invited.  Bring a snack to share.  See you there!
Thank you Allen, Merlene and Brady, and any others who had a hand in this work.

Youth happening

Timmy Rhoads organized a gathering today in the Crossroads where a friend's band (Conviction) is playing and giving some Christian testimony.

The flash reveals a bit of what was happening, but I'm not sure who all was there.  You can see Kable Dale and Moshe on the right.

Pat Reggets, and her mother

Pat is a familiar figure around Jefferson Baptist.  And she  currently radiates with the announcement of the birth of her 4th great grandchild, Kade, a whopping 23 inches long!
Don and Pat will have reached their 50th wedding anniversary this year, on November 24th.  They will be taking a trip to Hawaii to celebrate!  So far they have been to 48 states, and after this there is only Alaska left.
We at JBC are encouraged and blessed by their example, not just of a faithful marriage, but also of a life of service.  Pat is in charge of our needs committee, arranging for all the potlucks, funeral dinners and other uses of the church kitchen.  She participates in women's prayer group, ladies' circle, and Sunday school to name a few activities.  She helps take care of an older sister who lives nearby.

Pat was born on Brown's Run, about 1/4 mile from where she lives now.  They live in Don's parents former home.  They began dating as seniors in high school, and got married when she was 17 and he was 18.  Don is an antique car enthusiast, and is retired from working for Chrysler.  They lived in Ohio for 34 years before moving back to Greene County in 1998.  Pat taught Sunday School and led youth activities out there.  They had 4 kids and 9 grandchildren.  Most of them live in Ohio and some in SC.

A quote from Pat: "My life has always been good."  She testifies to guidance and direction from her mother, Hazel Broadwater, who was a pillar of the church when John and I arrived in 1982.

When I took this photo the other night, Pat had with her another baby quilt for some mission or other - I can't keep up.  Every new baby in our church gets one, and so do lots of other folks.  Pat hand stitches a lot of each quilt.  I saw the perfect, tiny stitches myself.  One of our beds has a quilt on it made for us by Pat's mom, Hazel.  You see where she gets it.  The two of them are great bakers also, Hazel being known for her rolls and Pat for her filled cupcakes, among other things.  Ask my husband about those cupcakes!

Hazel and Henry had around about 13 children, of which Pat is the baby, and many still live around here.  Here's a quote Pat gave me from Hazel about marriage: "The first 20 years are the hardest."  Isn't that the kind of long term vision we could all benefit from.

Overcast Thursday

John is driving the church van up for repair to a broken window - no one knows what happened to it.
Pete (maroon car) is going with him to give him a ride home.

And this little blue car (you can tell naming cars is not my forte) is a familiar sight at the church - it means Lenora is at work.

1991

The new ramp for the church, dedicated by Bethany and Adam Seville.  Sherri Falor and Ginny Murphy in the background.

A new ramp for the parsonage, too!  Young Charley Barno,   less young Charley Barno,  Chuck Scott, Stan Scott and Pete Arigoni did the work.

Carrie and Jeremy participate in a youth group game.

It wasn't all games for the Dorean girls.  Did you know we used to have a garden where the Crossroads parking lot is now?  Even Elizabeth Cadle was put to work I see.  And there is the old hotel on the corner where we now have the Bible Garden!

I chose this photo so you could see where the church nursery used to be - right beside the kitchen counter!

A story in snow...

Tuesday Evening

At the Ladies' Circle meeting tonight we got out some of the knives we sell, and picked out a nice one in a sheath to donate to the Hunters' Harvest outreach for a door prize.

We also cleaned wax off the candle holders we use at our Christmas Eve service.

We discussed what refrigerator and stove to choose for the church kitchen renovation being planned.

And we had some great fellowship.  Join us the next 4th Tuesday at 7:00!

Tuesday morning..

The ladies are at it again - praying for you, for me, for the church, for the world...
and here is John getting some updates.

He's home!

Beth and Sable made oatmeal cookies for John, and Beth and I picked him up at the airport tonight.
We're so glad he's home.  He's a bit worn out, but he has a lot to say about Haiti.
Those of you who come to church will hear about it in the sermon, I'm sure!

“But you, mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit for my people Israel, for they will soon come home."  Ez 36:8

1990

Charlene and Beth
Pete, Dean and Rose took Hannah and Carrie fishing  - Carrie got the big one, and everyone else is showing how many they caught.

VBS - Jeremy stuffing in marshmallows while Opal times him.  Or something like that.

Hannah and Katie Rohanna made a lot of money selling this lemonade, or so it says on the back of this photo.  I remember folks like Lucy Scott making hefty donations without drinking all that much lemonade.

New water heater!

The parking lot gets plowed while the Watson brothers' crew removes our old water heater from the janitor's closet and replaces it with a much smaller, more efficient model.  And it's suspended from the ceiling, leaving a bit more floor space in the closet.
