Ahead of the game....

We went out to Bell's Christmas tree farm today and picked out a tree.  Shannon, Jules and Charlie came too.  The day was beautiful if a little nippy.

Hosea 14:8
I am like a green pine tree; your fruitfulness comes from me.

Our resident electrician...

... and general handyman Larry is at it again, this time replacing some fluorescent bulbs with green options.  With Bethany, the resident helper, of course.

Another good neighbor...

Pete noticed our tire was losing air.  Then he noticed John was out of town and I had no idea how to put air in a tire.  Then he took it to the gas station and filled the tire.

Romans 15:2
Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.

Youth group is off again tonight

...to West Side.

Renne, as requested...

A Blast from the past

John and Hannah.  I meant to put this up around wedding time- not even 5 months late.  Not bad.

Also in the neighborhood...

In the Neighborhood

Emily and Elihu stopped by on their way to do some more cleaning at their old place.  So good to see them!

And Ron Headlee once again has allowed Beth to come "work with him" on Wednesday mornings.  She loves greeting all her old friends at JM Elementary, from Mrs. Collins ("How was the wedding for you?") to Mr. McElheny ("When is the chorus concert?").
God bless all those kind folks.

Stormy Night

...but the Ladies' Circle braved the winds to enjoy their October meeting together.
We had two younger ladies with us tonight
and they added vivacity.

Pastor Appreciation Month

You can tell it's here when John starts to get cards and gifts left on the kitchen table.  The folks in this church used to slip him money in their handshake after church when he first started preaching here in 1982, and they have never stopped giving.
We just received a very fat envelope the other Sunday, and this during a recession!
You can't outgive God and you can't outgive JBC either.
We feel honored by this congregation.  The way of the world is to look for our own advancement, but the way of the Kingdom is to build a culture of honor.

Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Tuesday morning..

...was a busy one at the church.  When I went over, Charlene and Pat were teaching Kelly how to do funeral dinners.  Hooray for young blood! says Charlene.
Lenora and Donna were working on curriculum orders.
Joey was making preparations for tonight's Ladies' Circle meeting at 7.
Emma was playing in the nursery.
And Ladies' Bible Study was about to begin.

Like John said in the newsletter, there's a lot to get involved in if you're looking for fellowship and service.

The wind was doing its art work on the sidewalk.

Dartball!

We hosted a dartball game tonight.

Mike Lesko (bless his heart) took a photo of himself for Beth on her cellphone.  Then she showed him that she knew how to post it as her wallpaper.

I hate to admit that she sometimes is more techno than John or me.

Shoebox...

Beth and Sable bought some stuff for our Christmas shoebox for the Samaritan's Purse ministry.  These boxes are due Nov. 14th here at the church.

Still harvesting...

For seven days celebrate the Feast to the LORD your God at the place the LORD will choose. For the LORD your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete. Deut 16:15

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Gal 6:9

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.  Hebrews 12:11

Camp Carmel Fall Festival

Clint and Angie Iams welcomed Camp Carmel supporters of all kinds to a Fall Festival at their wonderful farm today.  Our youth group went and enjoyed the games, the animals and of course the food

Alex Evanoff...

...is our new youth group helper!  He goes to Waynesburg University and hails from Butler.

A Move and a Wedding

I found Emily and Joey cleaning the Washington Street house to get it ready for Bill Bebber to move into.  He'll be renting this little house not far from the church.
Brant and Amy Collins got married at our church today.  The dresses were a gorgeous fall orange.
