Zippori, Israel

For sifting dirt for archeological finds
On our way to Jerusalem we stopped at several famous spots, first the ancient town of Zippori that had streets, public buildings, houses, a theater, a central market, bathhouses, a synagogue and churches, and more from later periods.  They had water channels, a reservoir, a tunnel, a pool - all the amenities of life back then.
John is walking on the street - you can see the ruts in the stone from wheels

This place is known for its mosaics - they were incredible!

Can you imagine walking on these floors every day?

The designs were so lovely.

This fellow still has bright eyes

Never know what you'll run into...

Or what you'll be glad you didn't run into...

The most famous mosaic in Israel is lighted with a spotlight.

She was indeed beautiful - "the Mona Lisa of Israel"

Another mosaic near her is not nearly so detailed
