Bet She'an

We started every day with sunscreen.

These arched entrances to the amphitheater reminded me of  a modern stadium.

Amazing method of heating a sauna room- circulating hot air through this pillared space under the flooring and through clay pipes in the walls.

The main market street in the city of Bet She'an, from the Roman period which began around 63 BC.
Bet She'an is an incredible archaeological site.  During the Byzantine period, there were 30,000 to 40,000 people living here, mostly Christians.  And before that, in the Roman era, it was one of the ten cities of the Decapolis, and the most important city in Northern Israel.
The tel of the older settlement where Saul and his son's bodies were hung until rescued by Israelites.

An earthquake destroyed the city in 749 AD
