The way I read the New Testament, we Christians were assumed to be eating together frequently. Our Maundy Thursday potluck is a sweet time to be together, a chance to cook for appreciative eaters and enjoy other's cooking talents. Many years ago a friend pointed out to me that when we cook for each other we are helping to build each other up on several levels. A lovely thought.
The service after our potluck was an intimate gathering in the Ed Building, sitting in a circle in candlelight, singing to guitar, piano and recorder, sharing footwashing and communion.
I always feel so blessed with Cheri's piano playing. She does it with a gentle servant's heart. Her service could fade into the background if it were up to her, but she feels like a pillar of the church, a foundation stone that many of us rest on, to me.
And here's a photo of several other servants who support us in many ways: Charlene, Bridget and Shirley.
Acts 2:42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
