Trustees at work again
The trustees are at work again, preparing to fix the plumbing problem in the church kitchen. Rick's on the whatever-it-is and Chris is helping. Tomorrow there'll be more of them to move this along.
Good Neighbors
The other night I was out at dusk trying to do a few gardening jobs before I left for DC in the morning. John had bought me 4 bags of soil to add to the bricked in spot under our church sign out front. Jim and Rose Townsend initially set up this nice display, but over the years the soil had settled so it was hard to see whatever flowers might grow there.
As I was shifting the heavy bags three folks suddenly appeared to help me - they had driven by and noticed I was struggling in the near dark.
It was Heidi (Bedilion) Jamison and her kids Trevor and Bria. They helped me dig out a baby weeping cherry tree to transplant in front of the chiropractor's office. They opened the soil bags and spread it out for me. Trevor did the shoveling so he and I could replant the tree. They left with dirty hands and my thanks for the blessing.

Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.

Composting
You may have noticed the compost operation going on by the church warehouse. Another of the pastor's many activities! Here is some of the wonderful result, blessing one of the many (OK, too many) garden areas around the church. The pastor's wife is looking for folks to help with beautifying and maintaining the church landscaping.
Gen 2:15
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
Food Bank
Once a month our church hosts the local food bank. Chuck and Lucy Scott have been in charge of this ministry for many years, and even though Chuck passed on this week, and is probably helping with a ministry in heaven, Lucy ran the food bank again today. She testifies that her helpers are wonderful folks and make it possible.

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

Newsletter Party
Time to help Lenora put the newsletter together! Laughter rings out frequently, especially around Charlene. If we're not careful, Beth will put several staples in each newsletter. This time John quizzed us on names he thought we might not be familiar with - "Who knows who Barb White is? What about Louise Eidse?" Lenora knows all the answers.
Eph 4:16From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Honoring Marriage
Around Valentine's Day we started putting up wedding photos of marriages represented in our congregation. Some folks didn't have photos from their wedding day, so we encouraged them to bring an early photo of the two of them together. It's been such fun that we have kept it up and are adding photos as fast as folks bring them in.
Hebrews 13:4
"Marriage should be honored by all...."
Other reminders of New Life on Easter Morning
The ornamental cherry that was "pruned" a month ago, as pictured in an earlier post, is now in full bloom for Easter morning! Two days ago there were no blossoms open.
Have patience if you are waiting for something. God is at work behind the scenes.
Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.
Easter Breakfast
Pancakes, sausages, biscuits and gravy, donuts, fruit and lots of other good food blessed our
Easter morning breakfast after the Sunrise Service.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Snow Damage
John and Hannah sawed a limb off the ornamental cherry tree by the parsonage after the heavy snow broke a main branch.
We all need to be pruned now and then. Some things just have to go - usually our selfish desires. If we'll cut them off, we'll be healthier, and produce good fruit.
Ezekiel 17:8
It had been planted in good soil by abundant water so that it would produce branches, bear fruit and become a splendid vine.'

Annual burning of the ornamental grass
Every year John gets his chance to burn something outdoors - the ornamental grass that grows across Grogg Alley from the church building. Hannah has inherited this interest in fire and was glad to help out. Chad, Carson and Jesse showed up too. Most of us probably have things we should clear out and burn up - things like unforgiveness, an old grudge against someone, a bad habit. In a few weeks this blackened earth will be covered with green shoots of new life.
Romans 6:4
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
